As time goes by there seems to be new products and new trends coming out so quickly that we don’t have enough time to try them all. There are trends out there that can be effective as well as safe. However, not all trends are safe and you should be aware of which skin care trends to avoid.

The Doctors Show has a segment in which they talk about “should you or shouldn’t you”.

Baby Foot

Baby Foot is a product, that you may already know by the name, is made for for feet. The process consists of applying a gel coated sheet around your foot, waiting for 1 hour and then washing it away. This may seem like a simple and harmless process but Dermatologist, Dr. R Sonia Batra, MD reveals why Baby Foot may not be as harmless as you may think.

“This is actually a chemical peel for your feet. and it’s got an elisa and a beta hydroxy acid. So basically you apply it for this controlled period of time. Now in terms of the question “should or should not”, this is sort of a qualified “should”, because if you do want to reveal that beautiful smooth underline layer, just like any chemical peal it will sluff of the dry, dead skin. But I say its a qualified should because it’s not for everyone. As you know, chemical peals can sometimes cause burns, can cause secondary infections. And the reason the skin thickens up in the first place is because its protecting you from friction.”

Too Much Sun

The sun is an effective treatment for acne and a great source of vitamin D. The sun gives the skin a darker shade due to tanning which camouflages the acne and it also kills acne causing bacteria. However, too much sun can damage your skin. If you get too much sun you will begin to see brown spots and wrinkles and in the most worst cases it can cause skin cancer. The recommended amount of sun in 1 time is about 5 minutes. 5 minutes of controlled sunlight is very beneficial!
