But we need to get our shut-eye and learn to how to prevent other things from distracting us from getting our beauty rest. Below are some tips on how to sleep better at night.
How To Sleep Better at Night
Put away the phone
We would probably sleep better at night if it weren’t for our cell phones. With the smart screen capabilities, we easily lose out on sleep as we find pages to surf and apps to play. Time can easily dwindle away with all the features cell phones have.
Aside from being a major sleep-distractor the artificial light of the screen alone keeps us awake at night. Recent studies have shown that exposure to LCD screens right before bed prevents us from falling asleep right away. In order to sleep better and smarter, it may be a good idea to power down those smartphones.

Turn on some white noise
Having a bedroom that is completely quiet may not always be the best remedy for sleep. We have a tendency to seek out sounds in the quiet. Or more commonly, we tune in the noise that continues to buzz inside our head. Having a calming white noise in the background can help foster better sleep. Turning on a small fan onto a low setting is a common way many integrate that white noise. Smartphones too have an abundance of apps that have relaxing sleep sounds. The following sleep sounds are popular: ocean waves, rain, wind and thunderstorms. Many of these are not only free but come with a timer so you can specify how long you want the sounds playing for.
Keep a notepad by the bed
Often times it’s our own thoughts that prevent us from sleeping better at night. Thoughts, especially stressful ones, have a way of entering our head and continually circulate. We are then unable to relax and make our way into sub consciousness. By writing them down in a notepad this can serve of a way to let go of these thoughts since they are listed somewhere else. In the morning you can then pick up the list with a clearer, rested head and tackle those issues during the day.
Read before bed
Don’t underestimate the power of reading; reading before bed is a proven way to effectively unwind. Even reading for as little as ten minutes before bed can release stress from the day. Aside from the distraction that words on the page can provide, reading before bed helps to establish a calming routine that leads to a better sleep at night.
Getting a good night’s rest is probably the most important step in functioning properly throughout the day. Without enough sleep our bodies cannot perform to their fullest extent. Following these tips on how to sleep better at night can help you to catch more Z’s!
